As baseball players and people it is easy for all of us to feel extreme highs and lows at certain times in our lives, seasons, and/or careers. It can be difficult to maintain perspective during these times be it positive or negative. When things are going great we feel like we are on top of the world and nobody can beat us. When things are going awful we sometimes feel like there is no way we will ever make it back on top.
Baseball is so analogous to life in almost every way...and the number one thing to remember about baseball and life is to stay rooted to the fact that it is not a sprint, but a marathon. When we face difficulties recognizing the positive when we go through the swings of the lows, we need to remember that things will pass and again change for the better. The more we understand this, the more optimal our performance will inevitably be.
Whether you walk the bases loaded or strike out looking to end the game, you must realize and appreciate the fact that you WILL get another chance. The key is to stay focused on the appreciation for the process, and to not get hung up on any one inning or at bat. Run the race like a champion. Don't get too high during times of success, and don't get too low on times of failure. EVEryday it is your responsibility to go back to the drawing board and ask yourself, "What can I do to improve myself today in order to take another step towards achieving my goals?" When this is your fundamental question in life and sport, you will always Live Like a Champion!
