Your high school coach doesn't care what your club ball record was when you were 13 or 14

Winning...man it feels good to win. If I had the choice between winning and losing well I think I would like to choose winning every time! There is nothing better than leaving the field after a solid tournament with a couple of W's under your belt and a good day of baseball. After a win, it is so much easier to walk to your car with your head held high feeling great about yourself, sometimes even if you didn't have a good game.

The reality of the matter is that winning at a young age just does not matter nearly as much as youth parents and players tend to make it out to matter. Sure, it is awesome that we scored more runs than the other team after 7 innings, but how did we do it?

The question you should always be asking yourself after a tournament is, "What did I do well, and what did I do that was not so well? In what areas should I be focusing my attention on this week to improve upon in order to prepare for my next tournaments and keep my development as a player moving in the optimal direction?" If you can keep this mind set consistently then you will most definitely Separate Yourself from the Pack.

I promise that once you get into high school that your high school coach is not going to be concerned with the number of W's you have in the win column with your club team growing up. If he is a good coach, his main concern will be knowing that you were coached by coaches that know how to play the game the right way. If you were coached by coaches that have been teaching you bad habits through out your career then it will be an uphill battle for your high school or college coach to help you break those bad habits.

You see, at young ages it is easier to differentiate yourself as an elite player even if you have many bad habits. That is because so many kids blossom at different times through out their adolescence. Some are early bloomers and some are late bloomers. The key is doing things RIGHT and continuing to focus on the development of your physical baseball fundamentals, your mental baseball fundamentals, and your strength and conditioning, as well as learning to respect and appreciate the game the best way you can.

If you are serious about playing baseball at the next level then you need to stop concerning yourself so much with what the numbers are in the wins and losses column at the end of the season, and instead have a the fundamental thought process of asking yourself what you can do to get better for the next game. If you keep this state of mind then there is no way that you can go wrong. By doing this you will great optimize your chances of success at the next level, and I promise...the W's will come!
